Poor or Rich?

9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich. ~ 2 Corinthians 8:9 (ESV)

Jesus owned nothing; everything that Jesus used during His ministry here on earth belonged to someone else including the tomb in which they placed Him. He left His Heavenly Throne to be born of a virgin womb, killed and buried in a virgin tomb. The boats, lodging even the donkey that carried Him into Jerusalem were borrowed. The food He ate the clothes He wore were not His.

20 And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head." ~ Matthew 8:20

Jesus Christ, the God the Son was born from a virgin womb and buried in a virgin tomb. The Creator of Heaven and Earth intentionally left His Heavenly throne gave up His riches in glory with His Father and traded it for the impoverishment of humankind. Grace delivered to us at the heavy price of Jesus Christ giving up everything for everyone!

Jesus showed us that no matter what we have here on in this world the true riches that is Our Father in Heaven's’ grace and forgiveness are the true riches. Anything that contends with Christ’s treasures is an idol of instability. Is it not better for us to be poor in this world and be rich in the eyes of our Heavenly Father? It is foolishness, no boneheadedness to pursue the undependable wealth of a dying world when we are blessed to relax and pleasure in the prize of seeking first Christ Kingdom. Christ’s unembellished life should impress upon us to live simple, uncluttered lives for Him!

“Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him?” ~James 2:5 (ESV)

Father make us aware that what we have here and now does not matter if we do not have You. Gives us hearts and desires to seek first You and Your kingdom and never allow the allure of treasure and pleasure to distract us from what is most important. We need You and Your love more than anything this world has to offer. Amen. <><
